Kiosk

Objective:

Create a kiosk to be located in Florida State University's William Johnston Building atrium. The goal is to promote Istanbul as a city in order to encourage students to move there, and should include at least five cultural artifacts that encapsulate the essence of the culture.

Concept:

The design for this project will be informed and inspired by the Ottoman architecture found in Istanbul and will feature traditional Moorish arches and geometric motifs. Intricate patterns will  be balanced by clean lines and simple textures in order to  create a streamlined aesthetic. The harmony between openness and enclosure will exude a sense mystery and intrigue, while sleek and shiny textures juxtaposed against natural wood grain will create contrast. Collectively, these elements and principles will form a contemporary interpretation of traditional Moorish design.

Design solution highlights:

- The five cultural "artifacts" included in the space: custom Moorish tables and chairs, Turkish coffee, Iznik pottery, interactive touchscreens that provide information about the city of Istanbul and its culture, and a Turkish wooden tracery screen

- The Turkish coffee stand will be attended to by an acolyte who prepares and serves traditional Turkish coffee

- Visitors may stay and enjoy their beverages as they sit in custom tables and chairs
